Restored Victorian Mill

Linda Cobbett transformed an old mill and stables into a family home. For it she was awarded Best Period Renovation 2010 by Period Living Magazine. There is a very interesting article here on the story of the restoration of this old Victorian Mill.

Summer House on Formentera

Good Saturday morning dear readers. How about visiting a lovely summer house today? It is located on a small sunny island called Formentera. It is the smallest and southernmost island of the Illes Pitiüses group and belongs to the Balearic Islands. It is approximately 6 km south of Ibiza in the Mediterranean Sea.

It used to be a worn down stable and Architects Nacho Alonso y Bill Wright were in charge of the restoration taking care to preserve most of the original building.

Items purchased by the owners on their trips to Bali, Marruecos and Sumatra adorn the terrace.

The sand coloured shades here are a replica of the ones used by the military during missions in the Sahara desert.

Natural elements such as a teak settee, a wall sculpture made with branches and stone floor make up this sitting area. The large window brings the outside in.

Concrete counter in this rustic kitchen. The small window, original to the house was kept. The original beams here and in other rooms have been restored.

Touches of colour on a white background in the light filled master bedroom. The same small window was preserved here as well.

Interesting idea to have provencal chandeliers as night lights by the bed.

Clothes are kept on shelves behind the curtains. More storage room at the top in wicker baskets. The door opens to the bathroom.

Rustic bathroom.

Hope you enjoyed this tour!

Restored House in France

Another post today for you my friends! Located in the Picardy countryside between Reims and Paris this house was built in 1650 and originally the house attached to a vineyard. A young couple decided to restore it but kept the antique feel in every room. This is how it turned out.

The brick walls were left exposed. Sulptured boxwood, antique lanterns and watering cans decorate the doorsteps.

Most of the items used in the decoration are antique as these glass jars and bells.

The living room floors are new with stone slabs and square black marble. Louis XV armchair.

The living room viewed from another angle. The chaise lounge is covered in toile de Jouy.

The dining room table is set with faience plates.

A collection of candlesticks displayed above the marble fireplace. The chest is Louis XVI

Vintage scales on the cooking range.

Copper pots, vintage glass jars and wire egg baskets all add to the antique atmosphere.

A wreath made with corks hangs on the kitchen door.

Original staircase.

The same toile de jouy appears in the master bedroom.

Porcelain sink and clawfoot bathtub.

Pale blues for this small boy's bedroom.

I'd love to know what you think about this style! Happy Tuesday to you my dears!

Restored Residence in Portugal

Good morning to all of you my lovely readers.
This beautiful country home, Monte São Domingos, was previously an historic nunnery and Alto Real horse farm located in the olive and wine region in the Alentejo, in Elvas, Portugal. Monte São Domingos sits on a hilltop with 360 degree views, including lake Caia, and was renovated over the last 5 years. Restored with original handmade tile floors, antique marble sinks, sculpted by hand baths 100 plus year old roof tiles and hand forged iron and glass doorways gives the feeling that the farm has been untouched by time. At the same time the house is technically modern with radiant floor heating, solar panel water heat, and fully equipped kitchen.
