Styling Magic

I love installations and styling but I'm sure that preparing for High Point Market twice a year might make me change my tune.  Hickory Chair creative director Ron Fiore and his team take on the monumental task of styling the entire showroom each spring and fall and always do an amazing job.  Hickory Chair was lucky enough to move into a new showroom with windows that let in natural light and help create even more real life scenarios.  This little room was off to the side but the touches of blue definitely caught my eye.  It really does make me want to paint the inside of every cabinet blue and restyle my own space.  That seems a bit ambitious so I might just settle for buying some tulips.  Wonder if Ron makes house calls?!

Blue Monday

Even though red seems to be grabbing all the headlines lately, I've been noticing a lot of blue on and off the runway and in the home.  I absolutely love Todd Alexander Romano's new blue apartment that was featured in the February issue of Architectural Digest with its pops of citron, chartreuse and red.  I also noticed these same color combinations in many fashion photos from New York, London and Milan.  Makes me want to buy something blue today!

Home Tour ~ Melinda and Lee Henry

I am so excited to invite you into the home of Lee & Melinda Henry. I have had the pleasure of getting to know Melinda, because she is one of my best supporters of my watercolor art, as you can see in these beautiful interiors.

My Caribbean Time print is on the left in this gorgeous sunroom. The cobalt blue and bright yellow color combination is one of my favorites!

Their daughter, Laurie, sent me these photos and had a little to say about her parents. "They love St. Lucia and we take a Caribbean cruise every year and add a little more to the collection. The shelf above your little painting has items from my travels in college that I've given them, mostly from Morocco, Italy and China. Everything seems to have a story in there. I love going home. They are pretty amazing people all around."

Lee owns a furniture store (hence the beautiful furniture!) and Melinda used to be a teacher for seventeen years and a gift shop owner/freelance interior designer (without a degree, she just has a knack for it). They live in small town Selmer, Tennessee which is about 90 miles east of Memphis. The landscape original watercolor in this photo was the first piece of art Melinda purchased from me, I believe. See how her stunning frame really shows off the painting? Framing your art can be just as important as the art itself. This beautiful nook looks like a design house on display!

I'm always a fan of the classic blue and white china seen throughout. Another one of my watercolor prints, Mystic River, is seen above this beautiful table display.

The last photos show their custom home painting that I painted for them for Christmas this year. You can see from these photos how to frame the paintings in a pleasing way that shows off the work. Perfection!

I am so grateful for wonderful clients such as Melinda, and thank you Laurie for sharing these stunning images of your parents bright bold and beautiful home.

Once in a Blue Room

I've been busy working on a new project and I thought you might enjoy taking a look at the inspiration images for the blue media room. I don't think it's any surprise that most of them are from the master of lacquer, Miles Redd. Enjoy!

More Happiness!

One of my readers mentioned magazines as something that makes them happy and I have to agree! Right now, the March 2010 cover of ELLE DECOR is making me very happy! Those blue walls are gorgeous and I can't wait to get the issue see the rest!

UPDATE: I was overjoyed with excitement when I found this issue on sale today in New York and I can tell you that it's just as spectacular as I imagined! It's probably one of my favorite issues in a long time! Hope you get your copy soon!
